All SKE courses must be completed by 31 August. In most cases your ITT provider will require you to provide proof of completion prior to enrolling you on the ITT course. If you have been accepted onto your ITT course with not enough time to complete an SKE course you will be able to continue your SKE course simultaneously with your ITT course. You will not be eligible for the SKE bursary for any parts of the course that are completed concurrently with the ITT course. We strongly advise against completing the SKE and ITT courses simultaneously due to the workload of both courses.
  • Can I study my SKE course part-time?
Our SKE courses are on-demand. They fit flexibly around your other commitments. All SKE courses need to be completed by 31 August. This means you can complete fewer than the recommended 25 hours per week as long as you complete your course by 31 August.

Evidence of degree classification can be provided in the form of a transcript or a letter from the university. We are unable to accept screen shots from your university account.
  • When will I receive my bursary?
You are required to keep a timesheet on the VidLearn platform. It is a good idea to update this regularly as you study, but we will send you a monthly reminder of the cut-off date. We check the timesheets on the 11th of every month. You will then get paid £175 on the last working day of the month for every full 25 hours you have logged. Any hours that don't make a full 25 roll over into the next month. The maximum amount of bursary you can receive is the number of weeks of your SKE course x £175. For example, for an 8-week SKE course you will receive £1400. You will not receive further funding even if you log further hours. The final instalment of £175 will not be paid until you have completed your course even if you have logged the hours. Please remember to submit your end of module assignment to your SKE tutor via the VidLearn platform after each module.
  • What is the format of the SKE course?
Each module follows the same format. How many modules there are depends on the length of the SKE course and the subject. Please refer to the individual pages for each subject for a breakdown of the content. Complete the subject knowledge assessment Complete the subject knowledge audit Watch the video lectures and complete any associated study tasks Prepare your assignment (end of module summary and reflection) Complete the end of module subject knowledge assessment. You need to score at least 80% on the second attempt to pass. Submit your assignment to your SKE tutor via the VidLearn platform.
  • What is the difference between CORE and OPTION modules?
CORE modules are the modules you need to pass to complete the course. The OPTION modules are not required to pass the course and any study completed on them does not count towards the bursary. The SKE tutor does not support the OPTION modules, but you can complete the online assessment to assess your subject knowledge. Your login for the VidLearn platform will remain active for 2 academic years, so that you can refer back to the materials during your teacher training and first ECT year. This allows you to focus on the CORE modules to meet your completion deadline and have a look at the OPTION modules at a later time.
  • How is the course assessed?
Online assessments are taken at the beginning and end of each module. Then at the end of the module, after you have revised and feel ready, you can re-take the assessment. We expect all participants to make a significant improvement between their first and second takes, and to pass the course you must pass the second attempt with at least 80%. If you do not achieve 80% you can re-take the assessment once. You will also be asked to take Subject Knowledge Audits at the beginning and end of each module and there is one assignment per core module to submit where you get the chance to evidence your study by reflecting on the module and summarise the topic.
  • How is the course graded?
The subject knowledge assessments are graded with a percentage. To pass the course you need to score at least 80% on the second attempt, which is taken at the end of each module. The end of module assignments are graded pass/fail. If you fail a module your SKE tutor will give you feedback and an opportunity to improve your assignment. Overall the course is graded pass/fail.
  • What support is available on the course?
Our central team are available to help with bursary and technical queries. You will also have a dedicated SKE subject tutor you can contact for support. Their contact details can be found on the VidLearn platform in 'General Course Materials' => 'Documents' => 'Course Information Datasheet'.
  • I have submitted my assignment. When will I receive feedback?
Assignments will be marked within 10 working days of submission. Feedback may take longer during school holidays. All our SKE tutors are practicing teachers to ensure that their subject knowledge is current and relevant.
  • Do I get a certificate at the end?
Upon completion of your SKE course you will get an end of course statement, detailing your studies and a certificate. These will also be shared with your ITT provider. It can take up to a fortnight after you have submitted your final assignment for the end of course documentation to be issued.
